When we jump into our beds for a good night’s rest at the end of the day, we all want to feel comfortable while wearing our pajamas.  Unfortunately, not every child is as fortunate enough to own a pair of pajamas, and they have to sleep in the pair of clothes they wore that exact same day.  Every child deserves to sleep well and comfortable, and that is why the BOLT Peer Leaders are conducting a pajama drive for this year’s holiday drive.

Basically how it works is that students can bring pajamas into their homeroom, and if they contribute, they will be qualified to wear their pajamas to school on December 22nd, the day before winter break begins.  The drive began on December 4th and will end on December 13.

There are certain qualifications for the pajamas that are donated.  First, the pajamas must adhere to the school dress code (which can be found in the handbook which was given on the first day of school).  When students wear their pajamas to school on the 22nd, students are required to wear them the full day and must wear sneakers as well.

Pajamas worn on the 22nd may not be revealing or promiscuous. If the pajamas a student is wearing are seen as inappropriate for school, that student will be asked to change out of their pajamas and into normal clothes, so every student should bring an extra pair of clothes just in case.

All pajamas will be donated to the Pajama Program, a charity that is dedicated to providing new pajamas and a fresh book to children in need.  Since 2001, the charity has donated these items to children from birth to age 18 who don’t have parents, homes, and/or money.  Their website states that these gifts provided to the children give them a feeling of warmth, love, and caring, and leads them to a good night sleep and sweet dreams.

As we prepare for the holidays, this drive is a reminder that all of us should care about and give to those who want to have a good holiday as well.  Ms. Measel, the advisor for BOLT, says, “Holiday time makes us feel really good, and it makes us feel really special, and it’s nice to provide that feeling to other people.”  She says a student should be driven to donate their pajamas to give all children that sense of happiness and peacefulness around the holidays.  All students are encouraged to donate pajamas for this cause out of kindness and giving back during this special time.

Plus, doesn’t wearing pajamas to school sound awesome?!
