While society has come to stop due to this global pandemic, its entertainment has as well. In this article you will get the list of the movies, video games, conferences, and sports that have been delayed by Covid-19.

First let’s start off with movies. Due to the fact that we have to practice social distancing to keep everyone around us and ourselves safe, the movie theatres have been closed. This caused many anticipated movies having to be delayed a couple months, or have its production stopped indefinitely. These delays even went on to movies whose release dates aren’t even in 2020. Here are somethe popular movie release dates:

  • The Batman, the new Batman movie starring Robert Pattinson, has had its release date moved from June 25, 2021 to October 1, 2021.
  • Shazam! 2 and The Flash have all been delayed, even though their release dates were set in 2022.
  • Wonder Woman 1984 is moved from July 5, 2020, to August 14, 2020
  • The newest Pixar film Soul, has been delayed from June 19 to November 20, 2020.
  • Mulan is set to release on July 24, 2020

Disney’s choices with the MCU has set a domino effect with the release dates:

  • Black Widow has been delayed to November 6, 2020
  • Dr. Strange 2 was pushed by Black Widow to November 5, 2021
  • Thor: Love and Thunder was pushed by Dr. Strange 2 to February 28, 2022
  • Black Panther 2 is set for May 6, 2022
  • Captain Marvel 2 was moved to July 8, 2022

Finally, the last big movie changes are:

  • The Ryan Reynolds movie Free Guy, was pushed to December 11, 2020
  • Sony has delayed  most of their movies to 2021

Now while these are all delays in movies, some big events were just completely canceled, meaning that we will have to wait for possibly multiple years for them to return. For example:

  • Coachella has been postponed, however no new date has been set
  • Electronics Entertainment Expo (E3) was canceled
    • This big gaming and entertainment event was scheduled for June 9th 2020, but due to the social distancing policy, it was forced to close
    • However, the event organizers have stated that they are thinking about different ways they could create an online experience
  • Emerald City Comic-Con was delayed
    • This event was scheduled to run from March 12-16, but now it does not have an official date for when it will be happening.
  • San Diego Comic-Con was canceled
    • This is the first time in its 50-year history that this event has been canceled, but the organizers say it will continue in July 2021
  • The Cannes Film Festival has been delayed
    • The organizers have stated that they are planning to bring this festival back in June or July

`    Unsurprisingly, sports have been affected by this pandemic as well. However, it may take longer for them to come back, as these gatherings are not just a danger to the spectators , but to the players too. Here is how sports are taking these changes:

  • NBA stopped all basketball games indefinitely
  • NFL, MLB, and NHL have not yet set dates for when their seasons are coming back
  • Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics have been postponed to 2021

As we all are doing their best to live during these weird times, one industry has been able to thrive: Video games. In the new age of technology, creating and producing video games has never been easier, although the companies must have their employees work from home, they can still do their jobs and get these fun past times onto our consoles and PC’s. Many games have already released on time, like Animal Crossing, New Horizons, and DOOM Eternal.

And it doesn’t stop there. Multiplayer games have been doing great. Activision’s new Call of Duty: Warzone has risen in popularity while we are stuck at homes. In a weird way, this situation is great for the video game industry.

However, there are more positives than you might think! In Europe soccer is trying to return, as the german Bundesliga has already resumed, with lots of cautionary rules such as, benched players and coaches must wear masks. Also, La Liga, one of the biggest and most famous Soccer leagues in the world is thinking about resuming soon. There are also many more ways to watch movies and tv shows at home. Many subscription services like Netflix and Hulu, and Disney Plus. Thank you for reading this article, and we remind you to stay safe, stay healthy, and stay happy!
